Click for profile 		I walked by a truly shocking number of protestors when I was in New York this month. In general I like the fact that people are out there, all over the world, expressing their unhappiness. But it will prove fruitless because their voices are un-unified and unclear.

It's a terribly lazy thing to stand around hoping change will occur. These people should be writing letters to their representatives and supporting like-minded candidates. They should be organizing and voting and doing real work instead of sitting in a park with signs. It's a lovely gesture, but will accomplish nothing.

Click for profile 		And the thing is, I'm pretty sure all of the occupiers would completely agree with me. I truly believe they're aware that what they're doing is essentially pointless. It seemed much more like a lark, or an ironic statement--or lack thereof--than a real protest.

Most of the signs I saw were self-consciously vague. Cute, likable, useless. I remember one that said, "We're here, we're unclear, get used to it!" held by a squishy-looking guy in a green lantern tee.

It's really just the sheer number of people that makes this worth discussing. And the fact that it's become a global phenomenon. I have a friend who was telling me about her experience at Occupy Dunedin. So cool.

I always read that as Dúnedain. Occupy Minas Tirath sounds pretty awesome although I hear occupy Amon Amarth went better!

I assume that the last time something like this changed the world was the 60's

It's not so much that they are doing it but why they are doing it. There is a shit load of bullshit. environmental disasters / Katrina / Bush administration /economy collapsed / couple wars / brown man getting sassed at the airport.

lot of shit hitting the fan and while i'm not sure how long this protest will last, if something doesn't change after this it would surprise the shit out of me.
