Alright, here's a little query for you all...

Morning people, you all know them, they wake up early and empty out the coffee pots at convience stores, they put on jogging shoes and go running before rush hour, they listen to AM radio sometimes. They sing and do morning chores, or make breakfast, and plesantly smile and welcome you into another glorious day as cartoon birds sing and a deer enters the room to make your bed. Yes, a forest creature is what helps you with your cleaning when you are a morning person.

Now, there are just some people who wake up, and hate the day. They hate the people that want to make you NOT hate it. They hate coffee, and generally eat breakfast after a long night, just before going to bed. They frown upon being spoken to for at least a couple hours since they "Just woke up", and will pull the feathers off your cartoon birds and make a headress out of them, just to dance around you and conjure up a raincloud.

My question: Morning people, how do you ignore non morning people? Can they ever get along? Non morning people, what's your deal? I mean, I'm up late too, and god knows I don't get enough sleep, but just cause some people can hibernate for days and catch up, doesn't mean I have to hate mornings, right? Was there a traumatic incident involving, uh, being woken up or something? And why does it seem to be the best way to deal with non morning people is by being an asshole right back.

I'm like you, Ali. I'm not an early to bed girl, but when I'm up, I'm usually ready to go on with things. I used to open at a coffee shop despite not being a morning person, and actually, this one very lovely woman who came in every morning really brightened my day with her happy "morning person" ways.

And morning people and night owls totally can get along, just between the hours of 12pm and 10pm.

I'm a little of both. I have a hard time getting up, but when I'm up, I'm not cranky. I might stare into space for a while, but then I get on with the day.

I worked at a coffee shop when I first moved here, two of them actually, opened one at 5am and dropped off my roomates/coworkers, went and opened another and worked from 6am-3, ran back to the other one and worked 4-close. Maybe it was the caffiene or just my therapy that forced me to be positive at any hour. Actually, I had a lot of great customers-- I did have one though that hated mornings, and only came in the shop to jolt himself rudely awake with a couple shots of espresso, and usually, rudely shoot me around too. I thought he just was screwing with me-- cause he's a comedian-- but it just turned out he is a dick and my light and sunshiney ways never caught on with him at all.

That, and I was always the first up; growin up, I'd be the first to wake a room of sleeping friends up, at my centers/hospitals, I was always up, room made and ready to go. I'm not an afternoon person. I just fall asleep...But I'll be up all night, and have a habit of waking up early. I do some chores early, fix up my apartment...like I said, eventually fall asleep in the afternoon.

I'm letting a friend stay with me while they are getting on their feet, and I can tell they are totally trying not to hate me in the morning, but it's like, I hate old people with pennies to count out in line in front of me, I can't help that. It doesn't happen often, but I hate it when it does. And he TOTALLY hates mornings. And people who like them, or even acknowledge them. I get that, I tried just saying good morning, and it sets off a "I'M NOT A MORNING PERSON!!!" trigger that makes me eat my words before I tried again. Even noticing that he's awake like, "Oh you're up." get's a grumpy hrumph. Now I just kinda stare daggers and say piss off, seems to satisfy him.

I'm pretty polite too, and as soon as he does "wake up" a couple hours later after just seeming like a zombie, he's his usual fun to be around self. Screw with the couple hours before that, and suddenly he's got a bee in HIS bonnet.

I should make him wear a bonnet...

Mornings are usually fine for me. It's during those random evenings when my brain decides to suddenly go into shut-down mode that I literally lose the ability to be nice, and I feel bad for it but can't do anything about it. One minute I'm gregarious and bouncing around, the next my head is slumped over and I speak only when spoken to and that's with one or two words or mmm's or mm-hmm's. I might manage to mutter out something like, "Uh-I'm-sorry-to-be-so-curt-I'm-actually-going-to-fall-asleep-any-second" as quickly as possible because I have limited momentum. By the third minute I'm often being ushered to bed.
This could happen without warning anytime between 8 pm - 2 am.
There will also often be memory gaps. I can't tell you how many times I've woken up in unusual places only to be told something like, you fell asleep on the floor in the middle of the board game (board game? what board game?) and Allan just got up and left after you took half an hour for a turn which should take thirty seconds (Allan came over?).

LOL! That made me laugh, I'm sorry, but it sounds horribly similiar to some times I've had, only mine are usually pharmacutically enduced.

Last time it was "I bought a case of beer? And it was 5am? And I got it after hours at the bar I worked at? FOR TWO DOLLARS A BEER?!" Yeah, that's right, I will enjoy my sweet, cool $2 beers, at $48 a case...

I don't fall asleep easy, I generally still have that instict that causes you to tell people like...your parents? That you aren't sleepy. "Go to bed". "I'm not tired (yawn) YET!".

And when I wake up, I'm up. It starts with anxiety and then just turns into awakeness.

I'm a zombie type, but rarely of the grumpy variety... I do tend to take things far too personally, though, so I should probably avoid running into morning grouches.
Morning people are fine. Just far too prone to wanting me to do things other than sleep.

I had a housemate of both sorts at the same time. It didn't work out. Morning types laugh annoyed bitchy ones sensitive composure. Bitchy one kicked out at earliest opportunity.

I don't mind non-morning people, it's when they force their non morning views on me. I'm a stubborn morning person, it's taken me many years to decide I'll get up and do things and function.

I lived in a fun house once, where ALL 3 of us had different sleep schedules, and one of them worked 9-7pm and came home and would proceed to get plastered, and clean all night long. And sing with earbuds on. You wouldn't even hear her when she left in the morning, but at night, good lord, she thought she was Aretha Franklin and would polish each tile on her hands and knees with a spray bottle going "Psssht Pssht" every second.. I wanted to kill her, but due to the lack of opportunity to do it in her sleep, I never got the chance.

I'm that same sensetive type, I take things way too personally, and I also have a habit of...uh...having some major ADD and NEED to do things as SOON as I think of them, which lends to running of the mouth. So things like, "What do you want to do today?" usually get the response from a sleepy friend, "What? Uh... What time is it? Wait, I JUST got up don't start asking me what I wanna do, god! I need to get out."

"What? You just got up. I just asked..."

"AH! (head implosion.)"

I take friends heads imploding very seriously, I cry.

I wake up at around 6 or 7 everyday since i was 6 years old. I can't fall back asleep after that.

It sucks, but i would say it's what has shaped me to become a morning person.

And to actually answer your question, i try to sneak out to the living room and clean, cook or something

I, too, did that once. I put up a door myself. On account of my crazy old, potentially senile, definately (as we later learned ) anti-semetic landlord didn't get around to it.

Win.

Just wish George R. R. Martin would get off his arse and finish the series. Rather than book signings and TV promotions!

I hate getting up in the morning. I am so out-of-it in the morning, my flatmates sometimes used to wake me up just for fun cause I didn't make sense, then I'd fall back asleep and forget the conversation entirely. I don't think I'm rude to other people in the morning, but I'm certainly not engaging! I also get frustrated with 'morning people' who expect everyone else to be happy and bright in the morning. I have no issue with someone else being happy and bright, but I don't think they should dictate to other people how they should feel about mornings, and I think some 'morning people' have a bit of a superiority complex about it.

Oh yeah, morning people can definatley have a superiority complex with it-- I think it's partly the caffine or the jogging or the early morning blood-transfusions of virgins blood-- But y'know, night people do. And people who love sleep do. Or people who serve food...or people who have great hair, or people who wear fake hair (by choice: Example, hair club for men?).

This all is begining to remind of me Ren and Stimpy again, and the Happy Machine.

i just haaaaate morning people (you know, nothing personal?). Ali (hi, by the way!) your description of non-morning people fits me to a T.

And I've just started a 4 a.m. shift working on our new morning show.... it's basically the worst, and thank god I'm a writer and not on air.

I recently noticed something-- when I meet an extremely bubbly and perky person, especially when I meet them in the morning, (for one girl whose job I took over, we're talking exceedingly perky at 5 a.m.) I start to semi-subconsciously suspect their motives for being chipper and start to think maybe they are being completely fake and manipulative, because how on EARTH could you really feel that happy in the morning? I have such a hard time relating, even fathoming how they could be the way they are, that I start secretly accusing perfectly nice (often VERY nice) people of being fake and conniving.

That's kinda messed up, I know.

I am so not a morning person but I am capable of doing things in the morning without projecting my hatred of it. During the summer I tell my campers that they can talk to me all they want but I am not going to actively participate in conversation until I've been awake for at least an hour, usually more.

I also feel like the more in my face and excited a morning person is, the less receptive I'm going to be to anything they're saying. I think this might just be the way I handle anger at things(all things, including getting up before 10 am)- by fuming for a bit then pushing past it. If I'm mad about something do not act chipper or excessively happy in an effort to change my mood, I'll just want to punch you in the junk.
