Click for profile 		Ellen, I'm almost certain that the point of this law is as a means of punishment, and not as a means of prevention.
I would think any parent that wouldn't think to report a child missing immediately, isn't thinking about this law.

Also Beth, I was thinking the same as you, but there may also be cases of shock where the parent is so distraught that he or she may convince themselves that nothing is wrong with their child at all.

Surely so long as they didn't cause the child's death, they shouldn't be punished for a little delay due to mourning.

Click for profile 		The reasoning behind the law seems to be that if someone doesn't report a child's disappearance or death in reasonable time then surely they must have killed the child. This makes no sense. We already have laws against murder.

Click for profile 		I think it's also that they allowed someone ELSE to kill their child. IN reasoning, atleast. So if someone had reported the child missing, it would be possible that police could have found her still alive.

Blegh, its a bit stoooopid. Because the people that wouldn't report the death/missing child probably do have something to hide/are massively unhinged due to trauma.

The missing child thing I'd say is a case by case situation really.
