Click for profile 		Soooo, not sure how many of you will have heard of this outside of the UK, but our main UK Sunday Paper (News of the World) has been closed down following public outcry over phone hacking.

The somewhat condensed version is, originally everyone thought they'd just hacked politicians and celebrity phones (tsk tsk) and no one was massively bothered, however, its since come to light that they were also hacking into normal peoples phones, including victims of 7/7, and murdered school girl Milly Dowler (thus leading the parents to false hope of her still being alive)

Today it has emerged that another paper (owned also by News International - Rupert Murdoch) not only hacked Gordon Browns phones, but also accesed his personal bank account and his seriously ill childs medical records.

Investigation pending....

Sooo thoughts? Is it disgusting that they did this? Or is it the victims faults for not changeing their answerphone pin numbers? Or it is the publics fault for demanding juicy gossip constantly?

Click for profile 		Yeah, I think that's why they thought she was still alive, because it seemed like the murder victim was deleting the messages. Apparently they also hacked 9/11 victims phones.

They're scumbags, and the rest of the media are scumbags for not calling them out, despite knowing.

But I doubt the victims (the ones still alive, at least...) knew to change their vm passwords. I would just assume my carrier fucked something up and go on with my day.

Click for profile 		i do think we've gotten pretty creepy as a culture as far as what details we want to know, and will actively search out about various crimes/people/ scandals.

However, I think that in this case, it's clearly disgusting that the media would stoop this low.

I think to blame the victims is quite cold and harsh. Not to say that we all shouldn't take this as a warning and all be more diligent in changing our passwords/monitoring our various accounts, etc.

Click for profile 		Well Gordy McBroon has no proof of the NI hacking only suggesting it. Indeed it instead seems that his son's CF may have been leaked from someone in his office. However the newspapers have latched on to Gordy saying he might have been to mean he was.

Still Scumbags!
As are the politicians using it to bury bad news such as the IMF subscription increase.

Click for profile 		This is one of the top stories across the west I'm pretty sure. I work in a Canadian tv newsroom and it's in our show daily.

It's the newspaper's fault. This is beyond a breach of journalistic ethics, it's a breach of basic human ethics.

The most interesting part of this scandal is the PM's personal connection to these uber sketchy journalists. Can he survive it or is his reputation ruined?

Click for profile 		Cameron? I love him. It depends what you want from the country. People just don't like him becuase he's making vast cuts (some of which are quite important). And before any one bitches me out for my opinion I'm probably somewhat more affected than you given that thanks to him our annual income has been decreased by £5k, if I went back to work it would be further decreased/we'd match what we earn now, and funding to a particular "facility" I used weekly was cut and thus my overall quality of life was pretty mahoosively affected..../rant over.

No I don't think it will massively tarnish his reputation. He has other things doing that for him. People just hate him because they want someone to blame/hate for this situation, maybe if people looked closer to home they may see who they should blame hmmm?

Click for profile 		He's made vast cuts and then using the whips increased our IMF subscription by more than the amount that has been cut. i.e. Cameron has given all the money we saved to Greece.

He needs to be gone and someone with a spine enough to tell the EU no needs to take his place. However he's the lesser evil than any Keynesian especially Ed & Ed.

I do believe we should indeed leave the EU but any reason I give you Ellen would be like talking to a brick wall. Rather I'd ask you, why should we be in the EU?

Click for profile 		Oh indeed the way monies were split at time of devolution by the Labour government was unfair such that Wales and Scotland get more money per head than the English. However I believe naught but ill can come from dissolution of the union and the loss of north sea oil and Aberdeen wouldn't be good.
