Meg, no, I think that was decent paraphrasing. I still think they help you buy some time should you be stuck in a bad situation. Just don't think that you will be tossing your attacker off of you and walking away to call the police to pick them up. I find a lot of girls think that they're going to remember everything from those classes, when chances are you won't. All of those instructors even tell you straight up that you should always be acareful first, and scream for help. They are just hoping that if all else fails they can keep you unscathed long enough to run away/ have help come to you.

Yeah, I think the problem there is victim blaming. I mean, personally I don't care if she walked 20 minutes after 10 shots of parton at 3am by herself, and she was attacked. NOT HER FAULT! I mean, as a friend I would suggest not drinking so much, or that she take a cab home, etc.

I think the point is, those of us suggesting caution are doing it more so to help someone avoid future pain. Just so that the person need not feel it. Because we like them.

Click for profile 		I stumbled on some news articles from earlier this month that talked about 2 teen girls detained for 'failed muggings.' apparently they tried to mug two separate women, and did assault them, (kicked them I think) but the women managed to hold on to their purses and get away I guess. So I guess there are a lot of incompetent muggers in Winnipeg...

Honestly think I'd rather have done what I did than get kicked by two girls late at night. Does not sound fun.

And ok, if I said I wasn't at all scared, that's not true. Of course I was a bit scared. But I basically just kept in mind 'ok how can I get through this as smoothly as possible?' Also then at a certain point I realized she wasn't really going to do anything to me, then I got less scared. But still.
