What do you do for a living? Do you enjoy your job? How did you get into it and/or know it was right for you?

I am at a point where I am thinking of looking for a new job but I am so scared because, aside from the fear of leaving what I know, I have no idea what I want to be! I so envy people that love going to work every day and seem to really relish their work. I feel it should always be that way, since work sucks a majority of your life away. Very Happy

Click for profile 		I'm not working right now, I'm living off of financial aid and student loans.

I'm not elligible for work study until December, and with my school schedule, and the bus schedule because I don't have a car, I don't think I could juggle my homework with a job and still get the grades I want. When I start work study it will be different because then I won't have to factor in the burn out that will lead from constant bussing and a tight schedule.

It took a ton of schooling and interning (and a shit ton of dropping repeating courses heh) .Right now i help scientists/doctors with patient tests like blood samples and bone marrow tests. I help document some of those. Im currently in mt Sinai Hospital, working for shitty pay untill i complete my masters. Might get my Phd if i can make it through that. so yea..patience Jay patience..

Man iv'e had all sorts of crazy get rich quick schemes, and i need another one (anyone want a man servant?!)

still looking for a part time job.

Click for profile 		Incapacity in Youth, I think. I keep talking to medical people and trying to get it sorted, but I just get referred around. One time, I got "...I think your needs are too complex for us at the moment".
I'm hoping the Asperger's people will be able to either give me a diagnosis or work out what's actually causing problems, but the waiting list for appointments is long. Been waiting a while, now. Until then, I've had a suggestion from the last psych - increase the current meds a bit. Eh.

Inactive I'm a teaching assistant at a top 20 research institution, where I am getting my terminal degree. I did the math the other day, and based on the amount of time I spend actually fulfilling my assisting obligations, I make a little over $50.00 an hour. It's ridiculous. But I love getting to assist in the classroom; it's a studio class and a lot of the students are non-art majors that are really bright, polite, and genuinely want to learn. I couldn't ask for a better situation.

Click for profile 		I'm a social worker and do child and family therapy. I really enjoy it. I always knew I wanted to work with kids in some capacity and this just kind of seemed like a natural fit for me. Sometimes I get frustrated and think about doing something else, but I can't really think of what else I'd want to be doing.

Do you enjoy your job? Yep. I don't really have to do much which means I have most of my time to myself and get paid way too much to do nothing. Its really awesome.
How did you get into it and/or know it was right for you? I googled "camgirls" and found a really nice site to work for. I've since expanded into other areas that are equally as easy and as awesome. If you're a girl and you're not shy to death its great. Many don't even show more than ta-tas. I mean that's what people do on beaches in some countries, so hey.

I jumped at this, and then realized that there's one in NY, too.

I'm a student. I enjoy it because it's seriously what I do best. I'm hoping to eventually be a lawyer because I feel like that will sort of provide a way for me to be constantly studying something.

My backup plan is to learn arabic and work for the military which is a little ridiculous and a little exciting.

The work is okay, it's a bit mundane at times but I like the responsibility and I like the fact I can go home at the end of ther day and not worry. Pay is crap but the people I work with are awesome so it kind of levels its self out. I do have other passions and aspirations for work, so don't see myself doing this forever but I make the most of it by trying to work further within the company so I'm not just limited to one thing.

Click for profile 		I am a granny-nanny. My husbands 94 year old grand mother lives in our basement apartment and I care for her full time.
I got into it because we were moving back to our hometown, I had no work lined up and she had just been told she could not live alone. No one wanted to put her in a nursing home and I am the only person in the family able to help.

I kind of hate it. I thought I would like having free time but it is lonely and boring. The only human contact I have all day is with a demented old bitch. If I could find a way to start working freelance in my field [interior/graphic design] I would love the set up but I just don't know how to start.

If I am not completely on the track to a more fulfilling career by next year I have decided that we need to just put her in a home so I can take a more traditional job in my field. I might not even have the option of continuing anyhow because she has been deteriorating mentally in the last few months. A lot more hallucinations and agitation than I am qualified to deal with.

Click for profile 		I'm a waitress and the pay is excellent and hard to back away from (on any good night i'll make 100-200, on a double 200-300 if I were to guess like basic hourly usually between 15-20+ per an hour). The schedule is sooo flexible, I can pretty much work/not work whenever I want and I can leave for long periods of time and come back and any point. I don't mind being a waitress if the hours weren't long or late I'd pretty much not want to leave.

However! Waitressing makes me hate people so much. People are so awful and the tourists who come into the specific restaurant I work at are fucking TERRIBLE. Waitressing has not only made me more than a little prejudice it's literally made me pretty fucking resentful to mankind as a whole, which is shitty. I know because of this I can't stay in the business forever, some days I just hate to go to/be at work.

I have no idea of the future! I can't imagine going to college, let alone choosing a major, or choosing some kind of career. I'm pretty much not passionate enough to commit myself to anything other than what I want to do in this moment, making the future pretty much nonexistent. fuuuuck.

Click for profile 		For the last 3 years I've been working at this fast casual restaurant as a FOH person and a manager. It's a really small place so there's not a lot going on. I can make my own schedule and take off for a week at a day's notice. I don't get paid enough for that I do. I hate it and have hated it for the last year and a half. I'm totally taken advantage of but I'm also SO spoiled and that freaks me out to leave that comfort zone.

Since February, I've been working at a community center. I've run camps for 4-5 year olds and 2-3 year olds in the summer. A few weeks ago I started running a preschool 2 days a week for 2.5 hours. Then one of those days, I'm also an assistant coach for this middle school team for Odyssey of the Mind? It's this... competition where kids are given a couple different scenarios and have to act it out. They have to come up with everything on their own. No outside assistance is allowed. Coaches are really just there to make sure the teams don't cheat.

This job makes me super happy. I love it to death. But the don't have enough hours for me. I'm working with kids and I'm teaching so that's a lot closer to being a teacher than working in a restaurant.

But........ I'm thinking I'm going to leave the restaurant for a full service place and make more dinero.

Click for profile 		i am a technical director / graphic designer / video producer / whatever they want me to do on any given day-er. i really love the work and it's super fulfilling, especially when we're doing big, cool projects and they let me get my hands dirty with all sorts of neat stuff. i get frustrated with the place i work at a lot because it's so corporate and so run down that very few people give a shit and even the ones that take pride in the work can't really get the support they need.

ideally, i would be doing what i do here in a place that really respected the creative, or maybe even for myself. i have dreams of making documentaries and music videos and queer-ish art porn. i keep thinking i should go back to school, but i'm so comfortable here that it's hard to actually imagine doing it.
