(178k) Loved Spank! UltraStar	No, greek life isn't allowed at (most?) Jesuit schools. Sometimes I wish there were, because it seems like a neat idea as long as everyone's actually decent. But I probably would let my own prejudices get in the way and end up not joining anyway.

(182k) Loved Spank! UltraStar	Wasn't in a frat cause of the whole gay+texas thing, but by the time i realized it didn't really make a difference, it was too late for me to pledge. Lots of friends in them, but a good number of them quit after a couple years, realizing it was a waste of $5k a year and with few uses after you graduate.

The ones I'm referring to are essentially country clubs, where there's no service, it's just a payment to be allowed to say "hey, in college I spent this amount of money on a group to make friends, so you know I come from a good family, please hire me".

I dont know if Australian unis have them. Bro Rape! haha I pledged a design fraternity. It was coed [hence the being a fraternity] and I wanted to do it for eventual contacts in the business world. My crazy ex best friend at the time had me kicked out though and I realized how flaky they all were when once I was not paying dues and attending meetings none of the brothers cared to be my friend anymore. The other more normal greek organizations on campus were weird. Lots of silly parties you HAD to attend or you were charged. Plus all the horrible fashion and public drunkenness. It was all about buying friendships from my perspective.

(182k) Loved Spank! UltraStar	yes, but those are the newer ones. there are two groups of greeks, as far as I know, those groups who were born before WWII and those who were created after. I'm not advocating that any one, any group, or any age is better than the other, but there are real differencess between sororities toda and from 20 years ago. I was going to type it all out, but it's 4;19 and nope, i'm shell shocked.

Inactive	Fraternities and sororities seem to be just like other societies in which people join together to take part in shared activities or interests, except that in their case the only shared interest they could come up with was their gender.

UltraStar	there are a ton of greek organizations on my campus, and i was surprised to learn which ones hazed the hardest. i didn't want to rush a sorority be it panhellenic or other interest or multicultural...but then i went to the parties for the alcohol and for asian frats on my campus there are 'lil sis' programs which sound kinda dodgy and in fact for some frats it's kind of like a meat market. but anyway the parties are good, and when the bids came rolling in i couldn't say no. haha just kidding, i was really drunk and signed up for lil sis because one of the guys wanted to be able to see me more often because he was in the frat. and then before i realized, i got a 'big bro' in the frat because i was out of town when they called me and they couldn't reach me so decided i was going to say yet. but after falling in 'love' with my big bro i decided to quit and be with him separately, because the girls in the sisterhood weren't doing it for me either. (there were almost 30 other girls and it was just too hard to get to know them on a level that i could actually bother to like them in if i was going to spend that much time with them pledging). and then that ended, and my roommate wanted me to do the rival asian frat's lil sis RUSH and because i knew some of the girls in it from before, it was really fun and we all decided to join. there are a lot of perks like my big always insists on paying for stuff not that i let him, and this summer because i had to go back to hong kong, i was able to leave stuff at my grandbig's house. yay! we really are lovely people.
