WOOOOO! I've been wearing my red Vancouver mittens for months now.
Im honestly not that interested in anything other than hockey, but that's like most Canadians anyway.

Which sports will you watch? Which athletes, and which countries are you interested in/support?

Also, thoughts on Arnold Schwarzenegger carrying the torch? Some people really didn't like the fact that he was one of the chosen to carry it. I think not being Canadian had anything to do with it, but the fact that he's bad mouthed Canada in the past and has really no ties to our country was a little weird.

I'm excited..but mostly just for hockey also.

Favourite part of Arnold running the torch was some random person yelling "Arnold do you still admire Hitler?!?!"

I think Arnold finally has learnt to just not talk unless his publicist tells him to haha

The luge accident was so sad.

NBC here, however, was hilarious the rest of the time. The pre-Olympic show was basically the narrator trying *really hard* not to be Ameri-centric or Ameri-supremacist and failing. And I gotta say, half of the opening ceremony confused the fuck out of us. But lol, cauldron lighting. Lol.

The opening ceremony was great. I enjoyed it. but, lol at the forth arm not coming up during the lighting indoors. Murphy's Law right? And poor Wayne during the procession outside to Waterfront. The guy did not look like he was enjoying that. Why would they allow those crazy drunks to run so close to the vehicle? Seemed unsafe. Plus him trying to hold on to that bar in the rain with those mitts and wave at people. My only complaint otherwise it was enjoyable. Look forward to the rest of the games.

KD Lang was amazing and the ice breaking and the orcas in the beginning was cool!! Needed more of that.

CTV was playing it yesterday maybe its on their website? I thought they would have pulled it but they played it again yesterday after the ceremonies were over.

I thought the Orca's we're awesome. And having the great one being the last torch bearer was awesome too. You're right though he looked uncomfortable, I would have been a little wary as well. The red mittens though however aren't the same ones that you can buy in the store. The white maple leaf in the palm of the mittens that the torch bearers get are made of rubber so it's easier to hold.

Then there are two of you. But what are you watching? Everything's getting rained out, as expected. Whatever lunkhead thought that having winter sports in a rainforest zone would be a good idea deserves to be shot.

I'm also surprised that relatively many around the world (such as you Spankers) seem to care... I mean, it's just the winter olympics, the important one is the summer games Razz And I'm nervous about how much attention the city I grew up in is getting. Frankly, I'm really embarassed because of this:

quoting: Pauline
lol at the forth arm not coming up during the lighting indoors.

I mean, that's supposed to be the last triumphant spectacle, lighting the inner cauldron with FOUR beams... instead they get Wayne Gretzky's face going from smiley to confused to impatient to "OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT WHAT NOW?" and then them deciding to actually go through with just three arms... and that, Canada-fucked-up-but-oh-well-we'll-show-it-anyway being the final image broadcast into eternity from different angles to goddman billions of people around the world. Incompetent!!! I mean, this is the sort of thing they'll be playing back fifty years from now during later Olympics when they show "highlights ... and bloopers! of past opening ceremonies". ARGHARGARGH!

Surprised, too, that most of the talk nowadays is about actual sports/competitions (whichever ones are still happening) when most of what I've been hearing about for years has been NO-OLYMPICS-ON-STOLEN-NATIVE-LAND and protests about how much this is going to cost us for many generations and so forht.

Other than that... I did very much enjoy the Scottish punk fiddlers, the whales and the trees and how all the landscape was shown; hopefully maybe the important people (i.e. that dancing devil Gordon Campbell) will realize how said it would be if the last of our giant old-growth trees were to be cut down and we could only remember them as projections.

I don't really think it's a big deal. Nothing ever goes according to plan. It's not the end of the world.

I think it's exciting to have the world visit. And it was nice to have the Federal government kick some money our way. Sure, the Olympics will cost us in taxes but, it also brings money that wouldn't have been spent here otherwise, too.

Just watching random things like snowboarding and figure skating. More looking forward to hockey next week.

Mostly I've been working! And trying to take in free celebrations. Gonna try to see Our Lady Peace thursday and get out on the weekend and hopefully a bit more next week. Very Happy
