Inactive I have been pulled over four different times, twice in the same night. Both of those were for having a burnt-out license plate light. One was for having a broken off front license plate, which wasn't that big of a deal because I live in Indiana during the school year and it's legal there as far as I know, but I was driving back to Ohio to get it fixed by my stepdad, who actually was the one who broke it off when he backed into the front of my car (he did it early the morning I was leaving when he was leaving for work, so he couldn't fix it then) and I was pulled over. All three times the police were really nice.

The fourth time was over Thanksgiving when I was the DD for my friend's birthday party. I was super nervous because I wasn't used to driving where we were going and I felt super responsible because all of my friends were already drunk. I was supposed to turn left into a parking lot to park, I was driving my friends car, and she was like, turn turn turn. So I looked in the rear view mirror, not checking the blindspot (which I almost always do) and turned. I was practically stopped when I did, but there was another car coming in the lane that I didn't see, and I hit them. It was so minor, it really shouldn't have mattered. It was my first accident ever.

So we pull over, and all my friends immediately get out to throw away their open containers (which I didn't know they had, thanks guys) before the cops arrived. One of them was only 19, and drunk, and had two underages already, which I didn't know about either. So I'm kind of freaking out, wanting to cry, the people I accidentally hit were being dick and freaking out even though we literally weren't even really moving when it happened. The girl called her fucking mom out. Seriously. Like she was hurt or anything.

The cop arrived, however, and he was amazingly nice. He let me ask any questions I needed to, since I wasn't in an accident before, and he was calm and friendly and explained everything. He in no way treated me like the tool I was for hitting someone, and it was nice.

In summation, I deserved it every single time I was pulled over, and sometimes I probably should have been but haven't, but I attribute that to the fact that when I speed, it is never over 5 mph over. My Spanish teacher in high school told us all that if we ever were pulled over, we should just flirt and even flash to get out of it, if we had to. Well, she was a tool, and she had affairs with her students in the classroom, so thank God I didn't listen to her.

I'm glad the cop was like that. Its what cops should be like. And luckily the majority I have dealt with were nice.

However my mum told me an awful story about what happened to her the one time she got stopped.

She is a resource worker for kids in care - but not normal kids, these kids have generally come from abusive homes and are severely fucked up in one way or another. Anyway, she had just left her office in Leeds and turned onto the notoriously horrendous roundabout when this copper stopped her.

She pulled over and was trying to deal with them. They asked her to get out the car and get into hers. Now mym mum had a 6 year old girl in the car that was severely mentally retarded. So she asked if she could bring the girl. The cops were like "NO" and she had to leave this kid unattended in her car.

The little girl freeked out. The cops were super rude to my mum and didn't even tell her why they had stopped her. They had her sat in the police car for 3/4 of an hour with this little mentally deranged 6 year old in a car on her own.

Funnily enough when mum got back in the car, she was totally shaken, scared and the little girl had soiled herself, bit her tongue that hard it was bleeding and needed to be sedated.

Cops shouldnt be like that.

The only other time my mum got flashed to stop she ignored it because it was an unmarked car, late at night, she knew there was nthing wrong with her driving or her car (its a company car so ALWAYS kept up to code or she doesn't drive it) and it turned out the guy that tried to get her to pull over wasn't a cop. I forget how she found that out.

Inactive Yeah. In NY at least, as far as I know you're within your rights to call the police if you're being pulled over and verify that it's a real cop and/or stop, and ask to be escorted to the police station/other public place before pulling over. However, I have a feeling this doesn't always work out in practice.

Actually legally you can not be penalized for not pulling over until you are in a public place. And some states have a number to call to verify it is a cop in the unmarked car, but if you dont have that you can dial 911 to verify they will send you to a dispatch person.

One of the most hilariously obnoxious cop story happened to my brother while I was in the car.
He was 18 so I was only 14. He was driving a car from my dads then used car lot and he had a dealer tags on it [he was licensed to have them also].

Well we were pulled over on our way to church. The officer said he pulled us over because the car fit the description of a stolen vehicle and that the tags were registered to a honda in Richmond. Al [my brother] tried to explain that independent dealer tags were not registered to a car at all, but a person. At that the officer made him get out of the car and go in the patrol car with him to give him a talking to about respecting authority.

He couldnt give him a ticket cause he had not anything wrong but he kept us there for over 30 minutes being obnoxious.
