Inactive Right... so here is a little itty bitty backstory to start this off....

Or disclaimer. Okay. Something!

I'm superstitious. Like, eeriely so. I will not do any of the things that I know are 'bad luck', and if you tell me you 'think you heard it was bad luck from your friend whose mom told him that if you step on a day-glow green spider while using a slinky that you will have 9 years of it..." I'll believe it.

And I'm afraid of e-mail forwards and myspace chain mail.

I even MAKE UP bad luck through my OCD rituals... But anyway..
I
This is basically to prelude all this with.

I am the perfect target.

But anyway...

I get a letter in the mail from "Maria Duval." She informs me that a famous greek spirtual leader "Nicos Daskalos" came across me birthchart and yada yadda, something will happen to me on the 19th of April that can change my life for good, and that he could tell me "Could save ali and reverse any misfortunes which this poor soul has been experiencing."

This "Maria" informs me that in his original letter to her he said to tell me that "From next April 19th, 2006 a change is going to take place in the life of ali that has been sought, for quite some time now. Not there is an element that oculd, if nothing is done to prevent it, affect Ali's destiny and stop this change from happening. It's absolutley imperative that we neutralize this saturine influence affecting Ali which are related to that very specific date of birth. To do this, I see only one solution."

Of course it never MENTIONS my date of birth, and in the reply letter asks me to 'confirm' my date of birth. Now. I'm not a sucker. This is done in a font to make it look like it's printed, with a font that 'looks' like handwriting. It also include a letter that's printed on what's made to look like notebook paper, or may have originally been. And the letter is in Greek, this Mr. Nico's native language.

Anyway, it's trying to sell me $7 parchments that will save my soul, basically. And I can return them as 90 days if I'm not happy, and haven't won $10,000. Though, of course I have to send this Maria something if I do win $10,000. They leave that up to me though.

It tells me all about these parchments too. But I'm summing up this 10 page scam for you.

So my actual question isn't whether or not I should buy this crock of shit.

I've googled this Maria Duval person. It's actually a company that sells the addresses of people who have purchased things from astrology and all that and is based in New York, even though the money goes through the UK.

But I mean...god dammit. Why does it have to mention all the shit that is going wrong in my "(and everyones) life and make me so tempted. I'm not going to.... the actual question is how do I overcome this stupid OCD thought of mine that there is a .000000000001% chance that this will be my final damnation and a schmo for giving up before I try this all magical mystical cure and Mr. Almighty will see it as a reservation for me at the "I just don't care" table and give up hope on me too.

GOD I AM SCREWED UP............

But then again, I did get the most beautiful wonderful thoughtful caring gift today from our Lovely Ms. Crysta. There shall be photos later actually...

Inactive I hate people like that. Those scams play on your insecurities. I just throw them out, and I'd reccomend you do the same.

You missed the part where it's not an email.

Inactive Yeah, it's not an e-mail. That was the whole easier freak-ish thing about it. I've gotten over thinking about e-mails too long. Took me sometime, but after a million, "Someone has this money for you in Africa that insisted when they died you have it" Mails...

And I DO know this one is BS. I just hate thinking about it.

Althought the 6 page letter in greek is mighty cool.

Inactive It's a scam and you know that. Just breathe deeply and shred the letter and throw it away. If you buy the crap they're just going to play on you again and again. Sad!

Inactive I knew a lady who worked next to a palm reader and one day she decided to go in there to get her palm read. Two weeks later, the palm reader called her and said that she had a horrible vision about my friend and that the only way to overcome it would be if she participated in a cleansing ritual. She asked my friend to bring over feathers, eggs, and $300. Hello?!

Even if "Maria Duval" were a real person, it would still be a scam.

When i was about 12 i got a chain letter- I lost sleep over it, but I didn't pass it on and I'm still pretty much alive.

Inactive AH! You only THINK you are alive....

...that made no sense.

Although if you're a figment of my imagination like some philosphy would dictate, I could be out to get myself and could very well die if I didn't respond.

But...then I must have imagined this letter too.

This still makes no sense.

You can get spam through the mail, too. I get lots of junk mail.

Aaah! I had a chain letter when I was 10 , Add_Ellen! I threw it out. I was a little perturbed by the experience because I was kind of superstitious then.

Inactive I got a chain letter in the mail when I was younger. I was supposed to "copy this and send it to X number of people" but I was lazy. So I photocopied it. Then my mom took all my copies and threw them away and told me the cops could arrest me for sending unsolicited mail. Cops are more scary than chain letters so I didn't pass it on and, consequently, my true love did not call me and ask me to marry him within 7 days.

*cries* I'm going to die alone.

No offense but.. if you know it's a scam, and you know it's bullshit, and you feel it messes with peoples insecurities.... then why are you even asking?

Oh and I despise chain letters and forwarded e-mails too. We now have something in common.
